Optical Bonding
[Optical Bonding]
Optical Bonding is a technology which improves the visibility of electronic displays by filling air-gaps between the cover panel and touch-panel, as well as between the touch panel and LCD display with highly transparent materials.
Air has a refractive index of 1.0, and display components have a refractive index ranging from around 1.4 to 1.5. These differences in refractive indices cause refrlections. Reflection results in a decrease in display visibility when exposed to external light. By filling air-gaps with a material of refractive index 1.4 to 1.5, reflection can be greatly reduced. The most important properties of optical bonding materials are transparency, adhesion, and yellowing resistance.
Due to the aforementioned benefits of this technology, optical bonding is widely used in displays in the mobile devices, medical, manufacturing and automotive industries.
