When light is perpendicularly incident on the interface of media of refractive indices n and n’, the intensity of the reflected light I can be expressed in terms of the intensity of the incident light I0.

It can be inferred from this equation that little reflection occurs when light travels through the interface of two media with similar refractive indices.
